Law Society Issues Justice System Cuts Warning

The Clare-based President of the Irish Law Society has expressed concern about the impact of cuts to the justice system, and the resulting closure of dozens of courts across the country.

The group says 77 local courts have been shut down since 2008, and it's feared that more face closure in the near future.

Ennis-based solicitor John Shaw has said the cuts have gone beyond what are rational, while he's also questioned the amount of money being saved with the closure of some courts.

He's warned that closures amount to a threat to citizens at a time when  they are vulnerable, such as in a domestic violence situation.
