Lawyers Say Irish Nanny’s Life Ruined Despite Ruling

Lawyers for an Irish nanny say her life has been ruined, despite charges for the murder of a baby in her care being dropped yesterday.

It's after the Medical Examiner in the case changed it's ruling to an undetermined cause of death, rather than homicide.

Defence for Aisling Brady McCarthy say they're hopeful she can return home to Ireland soon.

Aisling Brady McCarthy was working as a nanny for Rehma Sabir when medics were called to the baby, who was breathing, but unresponsive in January 2013.

She was arrested five days after the one year old girl died at Boston Children's Hospital.

At the time, the medical examiner who carried out the post mortem listed the cause of death as complications of blunt force head injuries, and the manner of death was homicide.

However, yesterday it emerged the medical examiner had reversed this, stating the cause of death was undetermined rather than a homicide, saying a significant amount of additional information had been presented that was not available at the time of the original conclusion, some of which related to the overall state of Rehma's health and her past medical issues.

Defence for Aisling Brady McCarthy said she had been jailed for 2½ years for a crime that never occurred. Not just a crime that she did not commit, but a crime that did not occur.
