Leaving Cert results out today

The wait is up for 57 thousand leaving cert students including 13 hundred here in Clare this morning as results are handed out at schools nationwide

1,312 candidates in the county sat the examination in June – this breaks down to 702 males and 610 females

A further 92 Clare pupils sat the Applied Leaving Cert and they too will receive their results today.

Just one Leaving cert student managed to bag nine A1s while concerns are being expressed about the four thousand students that failed maths.

That’s a slight improvement on last year and of course this year the subject saw a new teaching approach rolled out in a pilot scheme to 24 schools called project maths.

Bernadette Lynch is the Clare representative on the National Executive of the Institute of Guidance Councillors, and also a teacher at Mary Immaculate Secondary School in Lisdoonvarna

Meanwhile extra gardaí will be out in force in towns and villages across the county tonight as the Leaving Cert Celebrations get into full swing.

However students are being urged not to overdo it and gardaí are also asking parents to play a role in ensuring their son or daughter has an incident free evening.
