A section of the busy Lifford Road in Ennis is to become a one-way route, despite the objections of local residents.
In one of it's final acts, the Town Council has given the go-ahead to the Town Engineer to re-organise traffic management on the narrow route between New Road and the main Lifford Road.
At present between 11 and 14 thousand vehicles use the road each day, and the Council has said the high levels of traffic had led to an increased risk of an accident outside the nearby CBS schools.
The schools support the plan, though written submissions from residents have expressed concern that cars will soon only be permitted to travel from New Road to Lifford Road – the plan is to be reviewed at the end of the next school year.
