Limerick Regional Flooding Has Knock-On Effects

11 Beds are expected to be unavailable to patients at the Mid-West’s main Hospital following flooding there yesterday.

16 patients were moved to alternative locations at University Hospital Limerick after three wards were flooded following the accidental piercing of a pipe during construction work.

The accident happened during construction of a multi storey block which is being built to house a new Breast Unit and new facilities for Cystic Fibrosis, Parkinson’s, and Dermatology.

As a clean-up operation and safety checks continue, the HSE says it is likely that 11 of the 16 beds affected will be out of commission for a number of days, so patients are advised to attend the hospital only in cases of genuine emergency.
