Liscannor parishioners seek to reverse funeral homeban on local church

The parish priest of Liscannor is to lead a delegation of locals to meet the Bishop of Galway this evening regarding his ban on using the local church as a funeral home.

Parishioners say Bishop Martin Drennan has caused hurt and upset in Liscannor since his controversial ruling, which saw an end to the long time practice of laying out their loved ones in the church to allow people pay their respects ahead of funerals.

Parish Priest Fr. Denis Crosby and six local residents will meet Bishop Drennan this evening to outline their concerns and ask him to lift the controversial ban.

The Bishop has already been given a petition and Liscannor local Patrick Blake says the community is willing to take the issue further if necessary
