Clare County Council has said there is little it can do to prevent timber-hauling trucks from damaging roads across the county
At their meeting this week, local representatives passed on the concerns of residents regarding this issue, while some called for companies engaged in this practice to pay a levy to offset the costs of the damage.
The Council says such a charge is affected on companies who apply for planning permission, but not in other cases.
It adds that there’s little it can do as it is virtually impossible to prove that one company is responsible for any incident of damage.
West Clare Councillor Fianna Fail councillor Michael Hillery says this issue can be addressed by giving further powers to local authorities
