The ESB says local authorities will be kept fully informed about any release of water from the Parteen Weir over the weekend.

There are fears the release would cause flooding in a number of areas around Clare and Limerick.

Flood relief efforts are continuing in many parts this morning, with the assistance of the army where the risk of further flooding remains high.

Water levels in the River Shannon are expected to peak this weekend, with more poor weather forecast.

Tom Browne – Engineering Manager with the ESB – says what happens at Parteen will depend on the weather, but local authorities will be kept up to date.
