Local Hospitals Buck National Trend On Trolley Numbers

Nurses say there was a fall in the number of patients waiting on trolleys at the region’s main hospitals last month, despite a rise nationally.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there were 699 people were left waiting for beds at University Hospital Limerick in March, down from 710 in the same month last year.

While, Ennis General Hospital saw a similar drop in figures – there were 14 fewer people on trolleys there last month, than in March 2016.

This is in contrast with the national trend – 9,400 patients admitted for in-patient care found themselves on trolleys, the highest ever figure for this time of year.
