Loop Head peninsula has been named the Best Place to Holiday in Ireland.
The West Clare coastal attraction came out on top of the short-list which included Killarney and Inishbofin in the competition run by the Irish Times.
Declaring Loop Head as the best place for a staycation, judges said it came out on top due to its majestic cliffs, pretty beaches and a landscape that remains uncluttered by development.
They went on to state that the local people’s attitude to the landscape makes the place special adding it was "time-machine tourism, a place that looks like 1970s Ireland, yet buzzes with 21st-century inventiveness. "
Loop Head was nominated for the Irish Times competition by Mary Redmond, who with her husband runs a restaurant in Kilkee.
Secondary prizes were presented to Killarney as Best Holiday Town; Derry Best City Holiday while Best Island Holiday titles went to Inishbofin and the Glen of Aherlow in Tipperary.
