Loop Head Hit By Flooding In Latest Storm

A number of homes have been flooded in Carrigaholt this morning, as flooding hits Clare’s coastline once more.

Gardai say the road into Carrigaholt is impassable, and the West Clare village’s post office is closed due to flooding and accessibility issues.

Along Loop Head, roads are blocked and the sea wall at Kilbaha has been significantly damaged.

Further up the coastline, flooding is reported in Doonbeg, and on the route from Lahinch to Liscannor where there are also rocks on the road.

The Cliffs of Moher visitor centre is closed again today and Bus Eireann services in North Clare are disrupted.

The Irish Coast Guard is advising people not to go out walking in exposed coastal areas.

Meanwhile, the repair bill for the damage in Lahinch and elsewhere along Clare’s coastline is estimated to be in the millions of euro, but Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin has given assurances that the government will look at the possibility of releasing extra funds to cover this.

Mayor of Clare Councillor Joe Arkins says it’s vital that repairs are carried out as soon as possible.
