Kilrush Independent Ian Lynch has crossed the finsh line to become the next member of the new Clare County Council.
He exceeded the quota after Count 10. Lynch, a former Fine Gael member, left the party to enter this race as an Independent.

His surplus of 143 votes is now being distributed amongst the remaining candidates.
The bottom two in the race are both members of his former party – Gabriel Keating has 1569 votes at this point, while Oliver Garry has 1507.
The remaining candidates – Bill Chambers, PJ Kelly and Michael Hillery – are all virtually certain to be elected.
