At least a thousand people are expected to take part in a demonstration at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe this lunchtime, in support of retaining services there.
The HSE is looking at a significant downgrading of the facility’s services in an effort to address a 90 million budget overrun in the western region.
HSE management and unions have entered into a consultation process in an effort to reach an alternative solution – and are due to meet for talks on Wednesday.
