A 34-year-old Italian man has appeared in court in Dublin charged with the murder of Tom O’Gorman.
The 39-year-old was stabbed and severely beaten at his home in Castleknock in Dublin at the weekend.
Gardaí believe he was killed as a result of a dispute over a game of chess.
Gardai were called to Tom O’Gorman’s home at Beechpark Avenue in Castleknock at around 2 o’clock yesterday morning – where they discovered his body.
The 39-year-old – who worked at the Iona Institute suffered extensive injuries – including stab wounds.
He was killed after a row broke out over a game of chess.
Tom O’Gorman’s lodger Saverio Bellante was arrested at the scene.
The 34-year-old – who’s originally from Palermo in Sicilly – appeared in Blanchardstown District Court this morning – charged with murder.
Detective Serg Patrick Traynor from Blanchardstown Garda Station told the court that Saverio Bellante replied I am guilty When charged and cautioned.
The defendant told the court that he wants to represent himself.
Judge david mchugh ordered that a medical assessment be carried out on Saverio Bellante- who has been remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill Court on Jan 17th
