Man arrested after air rage incident on flight diverted to Shannon

A 32 year old man is due in court in Ennis later today charged in connection with an air rage incident.

The Austrian National was detained after a transatlantic flight from Washinton to Vienna was forced to divert to Shannon Airport this morning.

The Austrian Airlines Flight  with up to 200 people on board was enroute from Washington to Vienna this morning when one of the passengers became volatile.

A member of cabin crew reported the incident to the pilot while a number of other passengers had to restrain the agitated man and hold him on the floor until the plane landed.

The flight made the unscheduled stop at Shannnon Airport just before seven and a 32 year old Austrian National was arrested by gardai under the Air, Naval and Transport Act.

After giving statments to garda the remain crew and passengers resumed their flight shortly before nine.

The suspect was brought to Shannon Garda Station for questioning and is due before a special sitting of Ennis District Court at 3 this afternoon
