Man arrested after armed stand off in Kerry

A 46 year old man has been arrested after an armed stand off in Co Kerry.

A crisis negotiator and on scene Commander as well as a unit from the Regional Response Unit attended the scene in Muckross, Killarney.
 
No shots were fired and the operation ended without incident at 3am.
 
The incident began when Gardaí from Kenmare were called to the house at approximately 10 o’clock last night, when they arrived a man produced a firearm, made threats to Gardaí and threatened another man nearby.

The Regional Response Unit from Limerick as well as member of the District Detective Unit, and a crisis negotiator were then alerted and attended the scene.

Gardaí cordoned off the area around the house.

The incident was managed by an on scene commander and ended at approximately 3am.

A 46 year old Irish man was arrested at the scene.

In a follow up search, Gardaí recovered two fire arms.

The man is currently detained under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act at Killarney Garda Station.

The scene is preserved for technical examination and the investigation is ongoing.

The man can be held for an initial period of 24 hours and this can be extended for up to 72 hours.
