Man Critical After Bodyke Crash

Six people are in hospital, one of them in a serious condition, after a two vehicle collision on the main Ennis-Scarriff road this evening.

The incident occured at Lough Bridget, around 3km on the Ennis side of Bodyke, at around 5:20 when two cars travelling in opposite directions collided.  Emergency services, including two units of the fire service from Scarriff, were called to the scene.

The passenger in one of the cars, understood to be a man in his twenties, was taken to University Hospital Limerick with what Gardai describe as serious injuries.

The driver of that car, along with the four occupants of the other car, were also taken to hospital though it’s understood their injuries are minor.

The road was closed in the aftermath of the incident, and Gardai say they expect it to remain sealed off to traffic for a number of hours.  Diversions are in place.
