It’s understood up to a dozen vehicles were involved in the collision on the M7 last night – during heavy hail and sleet.

It’s understood weather conditions were extremely poor at the time.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem will take place.

While the number of vehicles involved has not been confirmed, it’s understood up to a dozen collided.

The southbound lane of the motorway remained closed overnight to facilitate a forensic examination but it has since re-opened this morning.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses.
