Man Dies In East Clare Road Crash

A man in his 30s has died following a car accident in East Clare.

The single-vehicle collision happened at around 9.20 last night in the townland of Derrainy, five kilometres north of Whitegate.

The 32 year old victim died after his car left the R352 Portumna/Whitegate road and struck a tree.

He was the only occupant of the car.

Gardai, two units of the Scariff fire service, and Ambulance personnell attended the scene but were unable to save the young man’s life.

Traffic diversions set to remain in place until around 2:00 this afternoon and motorists are advised to exercise caution.

This is the third fatal crash on County Clare’s roads in less than a week.

On Friday, a 76 year old German Tourist died after she was struck by a tractor outside the Bunratty folk park, while on Tuesday last, a 42 year old Doonbeg motorcyclist died in a crash on the Ennis to Tulla Road.
