A 23-year-old man who killed a young man during a fight in Kilkee has been jailed for seven years.
Robbie Walsh of Island View, Kilrush was cleared of Karl Haugh’s murder but a jury found him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter.
Robbie Walsh stabbed father-of-one Karl Haugh in the back, during a fight which broke out in the Marian Estate in Kilkee in the early hours of August 6th, 2017.
His trial heard he wasn’t the one who brought the knife to the scene but admitted using it while grappling with Mr Haugh.
Mr Walsh was arrested at his home the following morning and told Gardaí he wanted to hand himself in.
He was cleared of murder last month but convicted of manslaughter – to which he offered a plea to before the trial.
The judge said one of the main aggravating factors was that he had previous convictions for using “offensive weapons”, in jailing him for seven years.
