The man killed in a workplace accident in Emyvale last night has been named locally as Gary Askin.
Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority are investigating the incident, which took place at a mushroom farm around 8 o’clock last night.
At approximately 8.00pm yesterday evening, emergency services received a call after three men in their 20’s began suffering breathing difficulties at a mushroom processing plant.
On arrival, emergency services found three men unconscious at a silo at the McKee Mushrooms plant in Cornacrieve, Emyvale.
The HSA says the three men were overcome by fumes after entering a wood chip silo.
One man, Gary Askin, was pronounced dead at the scene and two others, including the victim’s brother, were removed to Cavan General Hospital.
Their injuries are not believed to be critical.
A post mortem on the victim’s body will take place today.
The area is sealed off pending a technical examination by Garda Crime Scene Examiners and the Health and Safety Authority.
