Management to outline Roche plan to Clarecastle staff

Staff at Roche in Clarecastle are set to be briefed by senior management figures today about the pharmaceutical giant decision to retain its facility here.

News this week that the plant and its near 400 strong workforce are safe, has been met with widespread relief and delight by employees, local residents and businesspeople alike.

The company is shutting a research site in the US and cutting a thousand jobs but its Clarecastle manufacturing plant which have been in operation for 38 years is unaffected by the decision.

The Mayor of Ennis, while welcoming the positive news for Roche expressed deep concern over recent high profile job loses in Clare’s County town

Peter Considine said the  business closures  most recently Francie Daly Motors are a worry describing such traders as the back bone and life blood of the town.

The Mayor feels boosting facilities for visitors, such as the recent reopening of the Old Friary near Club Bridge will help generate jobs locally.

Clr Considine is also urging people to support their own as much as possible and shop local
