Marie Fleming loses Supreme Court bid

Terminally ill woman Marie Fleming has lost her Supreme Court challenge to the ban on assisted suicide.

In an unanimous ruling 7 judges of the Supreme Court found there is no Constitutional right to commit suicide nor is there a right to arrange for the termination of one’s life at a time of one’s choosing.

The 59 year old says she’s in constant pain but her physical disability from multiple sclerosis means she’s unable to take her life without assistance.

Anyone who helps her could face up to 14 years in prison under the 1993 criminal law suicide act.

Her partner Tom Curran says he is still prepared to help her end her life if those are her wishes.
