Mayor of Boston Says Ireland Can do More to Promote Entreprenuers

The Mayor of Boston says he looks forward to helping Shannon Airport expand. 

Marty Walsh arrived in Ireland at Clare's International Airport for a ten day visit this morning where he met with the executive of the Shannon Group, local businesses and politicians.

On his arrival Mr Walsh says he feels  the Shannon Region and Ireland can do more to promote business opportunities stateside. 

His visit, is the first of a Bostonian Mayor to Ireland in over 16 years,  and Mr Walsh says he's planning on several more trips during his term of office.  

Top of the Agenda at this morning's gathering was business and efforts by companies here to develop opportunities stateside. 

Speaking this morning at Shannon Airport Marty Walsh says the efforts to support entreprenuers here need to come from both sides of the Atlantic. 

Mayor Walsh's parents Mary and the late John are natives of Galway – they departed from the shores of Ireland through Shannon Airport almost 60 years ago. 

Today he will return to Conemara, to open a new diaspora centre on his first official trip since taking office. 

A large contigent of Carna and Rosmuck were at Shannon Airport to welcome him home this morning. 

His Mum Mary who left through the gates of the facility at just 17 returned to the Gaeltacht last week to get the house ready. 

She says she never imagined she'd return to Ireland with a Mayor for a Son.

Cathaoirleach of Clare John Crowe was on hand for the official welcome and says he's confident the region will reap the benefits of the publicity.

While Mayor Walsh says he's been watching the developments at Shannon Airport very closely  will continue to support efforts to expand and develop it during his term of office:.
