Calls have been made for stimulus package to assist struggling small businesses in Ennis.
The proposal, put forward by the Mayor of Ennis includes a plan to defer rates for businesses who prove they’re in financial difficulty and to approach estate agents with a view to lowering rents.
It comes as Ennis Town council figures reveal that over 530 thousand euro in rates remain uncollected this year while the council has written off 591,000 euro in irrecoverable rates.
Though no decision was made on the plan, Fine Gael Councillor Johnny Flynn says the stimulus package would help retain jobs in Ennis and offer support to local business during the recession.
