McGovern Appeal to begin

 

A Barefield man jailed for  the manslaughter of a 14 year old boy in Ennis is appealing his conviction today.

20 year old John McGovern of Ballyduff is currently serving a 6 year sentence for killing Michael Doherty outside Supermacs on O’ O’Connell Street in Ennis on the 23rd of June 2007.

Following his trial last year, McGovern was found not guilty of murder but guilty of the manslaughter of Mr Doherty who was a settled traveller that lived with his family at Ashline on the Kilrush Road in Ennis.

At the Court of Criminal Appeal today council for John McGovern will appeal both the conviction and the sentence handed down by the trial judge Mr Justice Paul Carney.
