Fine Gael members have chosen Sean McLoughlin to fill the vacant seat on Clare County Council.
The Shannon Town Councillor was selected by party members at a meeting in Bunratty last evening, where he was given the nod ahead of Newmarket-on-Fergus native and 2009 local election candidate Marinella Raftery.
The seat was vacated last month when party colleague Tony Mulcahy was elected to Seanad Eireann

Meanwhile, Lahinch native Bill Slattery is set to take the seat vacated by Senator Martin Conway
Both nominations must now be ratified by the party’s national executive but this is regarded as a formality.
