Scarriff native Michael McNamara name has been put forward for nomination  to represent the party in next year’s vote.

The barrister received almost 13,000 votes when running as an independent candidate in last year’s European election, a large portion of which came from Clare voters.

Clare Labour will hold their convention this coming Friday, and it’s understood that the party may also consider adding a second candidate to the ticket.

Labour last won a seat here in the 1992 General Election, when Doctor Moosajee Bhamjee was elected into Dáil Eireann by the Clare public.
