McNulty Agrees To Quit Seanad Seat If Elected

The Fine Gael by-election candidate for the Seanad John McNulty has agreed to resign the seat if he wins it.

The move would spark a fresh by-election which the Government would win, but there's still a chance that Independent candidate Gerard Craughwell could emerge victorious.

A result of the race is expected around lunchtime today.

Already, Labour TD Michael McNamara has told Clare FM that he voted for Independent candidate Gerard Craughwell.

Fine Gael's Pat Breen, Joe Carey and Senator Tony Mulcahy have declined to reveal who they supported, though Senator Martin Conway says he did vote for John McNulty before the Donegal businessman asked not to be considered.

Meanwhile, voting is underway two Dáil by-election's in Dublin South West and Roscommon South Leitrim.
