The Green party’s representative in Clare has signalled more challenging times ahead for the party in government following the resignation of Trevor Sargent as Junior Minister.
Ennis Councillor Brian Meaney has expressed upset at the decision but paid tribute to his former leader’s dignified handling of the controversy over representations he made to the gardai to have a criminal prosecution dropped.
The shock announcement came just five days after the Greens effectively forced the resignation of Willie O’Dea, and Councillor Meaney says it’s a clear indication of how politics works.
It’s expected the Greens will fill the vacant Junir Ministerial post as part of an expected cabinet reshuffle but Brian Meaney says their path ahead in government is deteriorating.
