Ennis Councillor Brian Meaney has broken ranks with his council colleagues over proposed changes to the county boundary in South East Clare.
At a specially convened meeting on the issue at Aras Contae an Chlair yesterday the majority of local representatives overwhelmingly rejected calls by the Local Government Committee to have Shannon Banks and Westbury under the control of a combined Limerick City County Authority.
However Green Party Councillor Brian Meaney says that it’s Chairman, Denis Brosnan, has the interests of the region at heart and that local representatives must also work for the Midwest.
The county council now intends to formulate a response to the report but Mayor of Clare Christy Curtin says they are first seeking clarification from Minister John Gormley on the status of the report
