A new memorial in honour of war of indepdence fighter Robert Byrne will be unveiled in Meelick today.
The Limerick man died in the village after being shot by a member of the RIC during an attempt to escape a workhouse in the city.

The prominent trade unionist is remembered for his activism in the IRA during the War of Independence.
Historian Tom Twomey will recite an oration at the unveiling of the granite momument on Knocklisheen Road at 1pm
