Mid West Nurses ballot for possible strike

 

Nurses are considering industrial action at the Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Limerick as the reconfiguration of services between Ennis and Limerick causes further overcrowding.

Local members of the Irish Nurses Organisation will be balloted for industrial action following a decision by the HSE to place extra patients on in-patient wards in Limerick to cut the number of people waiting on trollies in the A and E.

Nurses say it’s the latest in a long list of overcrowding problems due to underfunding and the removal of up to 60 acute beds at Ennis General and Nenagh Hospitals, with 29 patients left waiting in the emergency department this week.

INO Mid West Spokesperson Mary Fogarty says nurses are committed to providing a quality nursing service to patients in Clare and Limerick but are disillusioned at the ability of the HSE to ensure their safety
