The level of unpaid rates to Ennis Town Council from local businesses has been growing steadily over the past number of years.
Figures released to councillors last night ahead of the authority’s annual budget later this month reveal that just over a million euro was owed to the council at the end of 2009- while this year’s figure stands at 2.8 million euro.
However the local authority expects this figure to fall as many businesses pay their levies in the last two months of the year.
Many traders in the town fear another hike in rates in the upcoming budget but Ennis Town Manager Ger Dollard says they are taking the difficult stringent times into account but cant rule out anything
