Speaking in the Dáil this morning Minister Brian Hayes says the responsibility must lie with Iranrod Éireann.

Fine Gael TD Joe Carey speaking in Leinster House – he says the flooding at Ballycar has discommoded residents and passengers for long enough.

He's called for a working group to be set up to find a long term solution.

The route has been closed since early February, and services aren't expected to resume until next month.

Minister Brian Hayes says it would be up to Clare County Council to lead it and that the OPW would commit to taking part.

He says flood alleviation works would cost a significant amount of money.

Minister Hayes went on to say Irish Rail needs to take the lead.

Fianna Fáil Councillor Pat McMahon is cautiously welcoming the idea of a working group – but he says the issues been there for decades and locals need to be listened to.
