The Junior Finance Minister has formally signed contracts for flood alleviation works to be carried out along the River Fergus in Ennis.
Minister Brian Hayes has visited the county town to formally approve the seven million euro investment which it’s hoped will help prevent flooding for 850 homes and over 400 non-residential properties

Work is to begin in the coming weeks and will take approximately 18 months to complete.
Ennis was last hit by major flooding in November 2009, but Minister Brian Hayes is hopeful these works will greatly reduce the threat of a repeat of that incident.
