More Young Doctors Emigrating

There has been a 23 per cent increase in the number of young Irish trained doctors leaving the country.

New figures show that almost 8 per cent of graduates aged under 30 left Ireland last year – compared to just over 6 per cent in 2012.

The Irish Medical Council says in total – 1,200 doctors exited the medical register in 2013 – of which young doctors accounted for less than 120.

The report does not assess the reasons behind young doctors deciding to leave Ireland but the Irish Medical Organisation claims its for financial reasons.
