Calls for a permanent part-time mediation centre in Ennis have been robustly rejected by the town council.
It comes as the local authority is availing of the services of an independent mediator at a cost of 4000 euro a month to try and resolve the long standing violent traveller dispute in the town while Clare County Council is spending almost 3000 euro a week on security at one halting site in the town.
In a motion yesterday Labour Council Paul O’ Shea called for a full time service for the town as well as face to face talks with the mediator but both were roundly rejected.
