Mulcahy Hopeful Transaero Jobs Can Be Saved

Shannon's Senator says he's optimistic for the future of the 235 staff of an aircraft maintenance firm which has been placed into examinership.

The High Court has appointed Michael McAteer as interim examiner to try and save the Transaero Engineering Ireland, which is based at Shannon Airport.

Formerly Shannon Repair Services and Air Atlanta Aero Engineering, the firm has been in Russian ownership since 2012 and the court has heard that it is feeling the effects of geo-political tensions, and the crisis with the Russian Rouble.

The High Court was told that an independent report had given the company a reasonable prospect of survival, and Fine Gael Senator Tony Mulcahy is hopeful that will be the case.
