One person has been taken to hospital with minor injuries after a spate of accidents during a sudden wintry shower closed the county's busiest road this morning.
Gardai say there were a total of three collisions on the North- and Southbound carraigeways of the M18 near Junction 10, Newmarket on Fergus, just after 8:30.
Six units of the Clare fire service from Ennis and Shannon were sent to the scene, along with ambulances and Gardaí, and the closure of the motorway led to traffic-chaos for commuters.
No injuries were reported from a two-car collision on the Southbound side of the route, though one person was taken to hospital following a single-car accident on the other half of the road – their injuries are not believed to be serious.
The road fully re-opened to traffic after 11:00 this morning.
