National Spud Day

We’re celebrating the humble spud today – it’s National Potato Day.

245 thousand tonnes of potatoes were produced in Ireland last year – that’s equivalent to the weight of a large cruise liner.

And Irish households spent over 165 million euro on the vegetable in 2012.

Vice President of the Irish Potato Federation Michael Hoey says he thinks potatoes will also be a favourite in Ireland.
