Nearly 1 million euro was awarded to Clare residents as a result of public liability claims last year.
In 2009, 35 Clare people were successful in their claims for compensation arising from public liability incidents.
They shared almost 985 thousand euro, with the average award to a Clare claimant valued at just over 28,000 – that’s five thousand more than the typical award nationally.
The figures are broadly similar to the previous twelve months, when 36 Clare people were awarded funds, though they received almost 100,000 euro less than claimants in ’09.
However, it’s also been revealed that Clare people are more than five per cent less likely to receive an award than the national average.
Statistics from injuriesboard.ie show that 72% of all successful claimants nationally were women, while 65% of claims were for around slips, trips or falls.
