Nearly Half Of Houses Built In Clare This Year Set To Be One Off Homes

Nearly half of houses that are set to be built in Clare this year are to be one off homes.

New figures from the Department of Housing show the level of building here is almost at the exact same level as last year.

306 residential unit commencement orders have been sent to the Department of Housing from this county between January and September of 2021.

That’s a signal of intention that a party intends to carry out building works for residential units.

The highest number of these was in August, at 76, indicating a rise in activity as the constructions sector reopened once more after lockdown.

It compares to a total of 409 orders in 2020, or 34 homes a month on average – the exact mean number from the first nine months of this year here.

138 of the intended builds in Clare so far in 2021 are set to be one off homes, which will be of interest to local Councillors as they attempt to put together the deferred County Development Plan, which had cast doubt on the possibility of being able to build such homes due to national planning rules.

The figures show that pre-pandemic, house building in Clare was on the rise – but perhaps unsurprisingly that progress appears to have now stalled.
