New Bridge Proposed In Blake’s Corner Proposal

Clare County Council have announced their preferred solution to one of Clare's most infamous bottlenecks.

The local authority is looking to construct a new bridge in Ennistymon, in hopes that this would ease congestion at Blake's Corner.

Possible solutions to the long-standing problems at Blake's Corner have been identified and examined by Roughan and O'Donovan Consulting Engineers over recent months, leading to two options.

One involved relocating the protected Blake and Linnane buildings, but instead the Council is now looking at another option which would not interfere with them.

It involves a proposed inner relief road, linking the Ennis Road into Ennistymon with the Lahinch Road.

The plan, with an estimated cost of €5-€6 million, incorporates a new bridge across the River Inagh 80 metres upstream of the existing Conway Bridge and Blakes Corner, as well as footpath improvements.

Talks have been held with Councillors from the West Clare Municpal District this week, while the Council says an NRA allocation of 100,000 euro will allow the formal planning process begin as soon as possible.
