But as Clare’s Town Councils fight back against the decision to abolish them, it seems Minister Phil Hogan’s plans are popular with the public.
85% of those surveyed on the clare-dot-fm website said they are in favour of the decision to abolish town councils in Ennis, Shannon, Kilrush and Kilkee as well as plans to cut County Council numbers.

So far, over 600 people have taken part in the online poll on clare.modus.ie and just 9% said they were against the abolition of councils, 6% said they’re not sure.
