New Domestic Violence Laws Welcome But Government Investment Needed

The government is being told that it needs to increase investment aimed at preventing violence against women.

Last Friday, a special cabinet meeting held to mark International Women’s Day saw the Istanbul Convention ratified, four years after the Government signed up to the agreement.

But Caitríona Gleeson of Safe Ireland says she believes that services need to be invested in so that victims have somewhere to turn to in cases of domestic violence.

The Killaloe woman has also said no-one should have to go through what the family of Clodagh Hawe had to endure, after they went public in their quest for answers following the murders of Clodagh and her sons by her husband:
