The new Mayor of Ennis has pledged his support to tackling anti-social behaviour and drug related crime in Clare's County Town.
The election of Fine Gael's Johnny Flynn to the position of Mayor was the main issue for decision at the first meeting of the new Ennis Municipal District, but councillors also expressed concerns about problems in local estates and recent attacks on town centre businesses.
Having met with Ennis traders this week, Mayor Flynn said there's a local belief that recent crimes are connected to a small group of people caught up in heroin addiction.
Meanwhile, the first meeting of Councillors from the new Killaloe Municipal District will take place this morning.
Fine Gael's Joe Cooney, who topped the poll there in last month's local elections, is expected to be elected as the first Chair of the Committee.
The six councillors will meet on a bi-monthly basis.
