New CSO figures show that Male drivers in the Banner County were given more penalty points last year.

Nearly 6,300 drivers in Clare received penalty points for offences committed in 2015, a number which had fallen when compared with the previous year.

However, new CSO figures show men were more likely to be caught breaking the law while behind the wheel.

Nearly 3,700 of those offences were committed by male drivers, meaning one in eleven men here received penalty points in 2015.

This compares to one out of every 14 llicensed women.

Unsurprsingly speeding is the most common offence, followed by driving while on the phone and failing to display without a valid NCT cert.

The same set of figures also show there over 5,500 drivers on learner permits here – 11 of them aged 80 and over.
