New Greek Elections increasingly likely

Discussions on forming a new government in Greece resume later this afternoon – but chances of a breakthrough appear slim.

The far left Syriza party will not attend today’s talks.

If a cabinet cannot be formed by Thursday, when parliament convenes, new elections will have to be called.

Weekend opinion polls show that the anti-austerity Syriza party, would easily win a second ballot.

The issue of what happens next will be high on the agenda when Eurozone finance ministers meet in Brussels later.

The crisis has raised the prospect of Greece defaulting and even leaving the 17-member Eurozone.
