A new mayor of Clare will be elected at the AGM of Clare County Council today.
Shannon Fine Gael Councillor Tony Mulcahy will hand over the mayoral chains at Aras Chontae an Chlair this afternoon and it’s expected that Independent Kilrush Councillor Christy Curtin will be the new man to fill the chair.
The election of Mayor of Clare is based on an all party agreement reached following last years local elections, under which the mayoralty will be shared between FineGael, Fianna Fail and small or Independent parties.
Meanwhile, the town of Kilkee is expected to get a new Fine Gael Mayor today.
It’s expected that outgoing Independent Mayor Lily Marrinan Sullivan will hand her mayoral chains to a Fine Gael Councillor following significant gains for the party in the last local elections.
